Charles Landelle. “Aujourd’hui!”/“To-day!” New York: Goupil, Vibert & Co., ca. 1850. 14 x 18 1/2. Engraving by Jouanin. With staining in margins, especially bottom margin. Otherwise, very good. Framed.
A rich and sensual portrait of an in dishabille young lady based on a painting by noted French artist Charles Landelle. The print was published by Goupil, Vibert & Co. This was a branch of a French firm, which opened a Broadway gallery in 1848 in order to sell “European” style prints of some sophistication to the American public. The prints were of the best quality and were based on lovely images, such as this wonderful example.
