Fitzgerald de Roos. “Quebec.” Print from Fitzgerald De Roos. Personal Narrative of Travels in the United States and Canada in 1826… With Remarks on the Present State of the American Navy. London: William Harrison Ainsworth, 1827. Lithograph. 5 1/2 x 17 5/8. A few minor stains in margins. Else, very good condition.
A view from Fitzgerald De Roos’ Personal Narrative of Travels in the United States and Canada in 1826. Although its author’s intended purpose was to survey the strength of the U. S. Navy to ascertain its potential as a threat to British domination of the seas, his travel narrative is rich with straight forward observations on many other aspects of United STates and Canada — their scenery, as well as social, political, economic, & artistic life. This is a lovely, and quite rare, view of the city of Quebec from across the St. Lawrence River.
