“The Expulsion from Paradise.” New York: J. Baillie, ca. 1850. Small folio. 8 x 12 1/2. Lithograph. Original hand color. Very good condition.
During the nineteenth century, lithographic publishers such as Currier & Ives, and J. Baillie, issued thousands of images in separately issued prints. These prints were intended as frameable art for the American people. The wonderful perspective on the myriad subjects which these images depict offers us a unique look through the eyes of that earlier time. This is a religious print by Baillie, showing Adam and Eve being expelled from the Garden of Eden, the snake bidding them farewell in the foreground.
