Paul D. McDermott, Ronald E. Grim, and Philip Mobley. Eye of the Explorer. Views of the Northern Pacific Railroad Survey, 1853-54. 2010. Quarto. Hard back. Illustrated with color.
The U.S. government’s railroad surveys from the middle of the nineteenth century were accompanied by artists whose work was included in the reports of those surveys. This volume meticulously considers the views from the Northern Pacific survey, documenting the story and location of the lithographs which showed much of the northern tier of the United States for the first time.
