“County map of Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona.” From Illustrated Historical Atlas of Fayette County, Ohio. Philadelphia: L.H. Everts & Co., 1875. 15 x 12. Lithograph. Original hand color. Binding holes at left. Else, very good condition.
A unusual map of the American Southwest. Utah, New Mexico and Arizona are shown with good detail and fully colored, which most of Colorado is shown topographically, but without the color. County atlases were very popular in the second part of the nineteenth century and publishers, such as L.H. Everts of Philadelphia, often included maps of different sections of the U.S. in order to increase the appeal of their publications. These regional maps tend to be quite rare, as is this interesting map. Detail is excellent, with topography graphically displayed, forts, towns, passes, roads, rivers, mines, railroads, and much else clearly presented.
