Frank A. Gray. “Gray’s New Map of Florida.” Philadelphia: O.W. Gray & Son, 1889. 16 x 24 1/2. Lithograph. Original hand color. Very good condition.
This is a fine map drawn by Frank A. Gray and published in 1889. It shows Florida at a stage when settlement was creating south (a railroad is shown reaching Charlotte Harbor) and the state was undergoing an economic boom, with large-scale agriculture and cattle raising. The map contains an amazing amount of detail of the towns, marshes, rivers, lakes, and railroads. A large inset in the lower left shows Jacksonville and the St. John’s River.
