“Gray’s New Map of Texas and the Indian Territory.” Philadelphia: O.W. Gray & Son, 1876. 23 1/4 x 15. Lithograph. Original color. Very good condition.
A nicely detailed, original antique map of Texas and the Indian Territory (Oklahoma) in an unusual vertical format, issued by the Philadelphia firm of O.W. Gray and Son. The firm began its publishing around mid-century and published regional and U.S. atlases up to the 1880s. This map is typical of their work, with an attractive presentation and interesting detail. Information on the many railroads in the region are of particular note. Also of interest is the appearance of a “Wegefarth” County bordering the Indian Territory, for this county is not recorded elsewhere. The map includes an inset of the western part of Texas in the lower left, with insets of Austin and Galveston continuing along the bottom.
