Haskell & Allen The Yacht Fleetwing

“The Yacht ‘Fleetwing’ of N.Y. 212 Tons.  Owned by Messrs Osgood.  Competitor in the Great Ocean Yacht race, from New York to Cowes, December 1866.  Making the run in 14 days 6 hours mean-time.”  Boston: Haskell & Allen, ca. 1869.  Lithograph with original hand color.  Small folio: 8 14 x 12 3/8.  Very good condition.

A lovely image of the yacht Fleetwing which participated in a race across the Atlantic Ocean in December 1866.  This print is by the Boston firm of Haskell & Allen, a competitor of Currier & Ives.  Haskell started as a picture framer and print seller.  He initially formed a partnership as Haskell & Ripley, but then about 1869 went into partnership with George F. Allen to form Haskell & Allen.  That firm issued popular prints, produces mostly as hand colored lithographs, prospering until the late 1870s, going bankrupt in April 1878.
