James F. Queen. “General Wm. H. Harrison.” Philadelphia: U.S. Military Magazine, ca. 1840. 13 x 11. Lithography by P.S. Duval. Wide margins. Repaired tear at left to near image and some stains in margins. Otherwise, very good condition.
This striking print of General and later President William Henry Harrison was made by Philadelphia lithographer James F. Queen. Queen was an accomplished artist, as seen in this print issued by the U.S. Military Magazine. While Queen did a few portraits, like this one of Harrison, he generally did views, music covers, advertisements, certificates and other types of lithographs. This heroic portrait of Harrison is thus somewhat unusual. Harrison certainly looks the part of President, and he was easily elected on his past as a war hero. A lovely print.
