Melville Wire (1877-1966) was an Oregon painter and printmaker. Born in Illinois, he moved at age seven to Oregon where his father became the pastor at the First Methodist Episcopal Church. Wire himself became ordained and served as a Methodist preacher in various Oregon parishes. His other great love was painting and printmaking. He produced over thirty etchings, mostly of landscapes such as this one.
