An original antique map of New York City by S. Augustus Mitchell, Jr. Issued in 1863, this lovely image shows the city during the Civil War. Mitchell’s New General Atlas is known for its fine city maps and this is a nice example. The map shows Manhattan in the center, and Green Point, Williamsburg and Brooklyn shown across the East River. Also shown are those parts of Jersey City and Hobokon on the Hudson. The streets are all indicated, as are the railroad and ferry lines providing transportation for the city.
