A map showing the world’s isothermal lines, or the distribution of air temprature, This map was drawn by Augustus Petermann, one of the foremost geographers and cartographers of his time. Petermann revolutionized cartography by being the first to popularize the idea of thematic maps like this one. His influence in maping impermanent, non-geographic features like temperature, rainfall, demographics, and disease lead to the maps we know today.
