D. Fausel. “Prang’s Easter Cards.” Boston: Louis Prang, ca. 1880-90. 30 1/2 x 24. Chromolithograph. Very good condition.
A rare printer’s proof of a poster for Louis Prang’s Easter Cards. Prang was the greatest of American chromolithographic publishers and much of his success was based on his introduction of the first commercial holiday cards to the United States. This poster would have been used to advertise his Easter cards. The stunning image was printed from nine separate stones, as is evidenced by the color bar in the margins. Note also the register marks to help align the multiple stones. A rare and beautiful example of the output of this important American publisher.
