[Illinois]. From Rand-McNally Indexed Atlas. Chicago: Rand, McNally & Co., 1909. 26 1/4 x 17 1/4. Wax engraving with printed color. Very good condition.
An early 20th century map of Illinois by the prominent map publisher Rand, McNally & Co. of Chicago, a company that would shift the center of cartographic publishing from the east coast to the mid-west. Typical of the firm’s work, this map has very good detail, precisely and neatly exhibited. Social information, counties, roads, and much more is clearly illustrated. Of particular interest are the many railroad lines criss-crossing the state.
