A late nineteenth century map from the early days of the Rand, McNally & Co. firm out of Chicago, a company that would shift the center of cartographic publishing from the east coast to the mid-west. Typical of the work from the firm, this map has very good detail, precisely and neatly exhibited. Topographic and social information, counties, roads, and many more details are illustrated. By the end of the nineteenth century, development in the state is shown extending up into the pan handle and to the west. Railroad information is also presented. Aesthetically and cartographically a foreshadow of the maps of the twentieth century.
