Rigobert Bonne. “Carte de l’Egypte.” From Jean Lattré’s Atlas Moderne. Paris: Jean Lattré & Delalain, -1771. 17 3/8 x 12. Engraving. Original hand color. Light waterstain in lower left margin. Else, very good condition.
A handsome and clearly engraved antique map of Egypt of the late 18th century. This is from Jean Lattré’s Atlas Moderne which contained many maps by Rigobert Bonne, one of the best French cartographers working at the day. Though not signed, the map was possibly engraved by Lattré, whose engraving work won him the title of “Graveur Ordinaire” first to the Dauphn, and later to the King of France. Egypt is shown as far south as Aswan, with many sites indicated along the river. A finely etched title cartouche, complete with crocodile, graces the upper right corner.
