A map of Asia from American cartographer Samuel Morse. Issued in his New Univeral Atlas, this map shows Asia’s political divisions in bold contrasting colors. The depicted borders, though somewhat inaccurate, represented the peak of western knowldege of Asia at the time. Of note is a large Chinese Empire, an oddly shaped Tartary and the Ottoman Possesions stretching down the coast of the Red Sea towards Somalia. A fascinating document.
