W. Newton, with constellations by W. Clarke. No. 3. [Vernal Equinox.] London: Baldwin & Cradock, 1830. 11 x 10 1/2. Engraving. Very good condition.
A beautiful and finely engraved map of the sky as seen in the Vernal Equinox. The map was issued by Edward Stanford for the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK). This wonderful English enterprise was devoted to the spreading of up-to-date information and the enhancing of understanding. This is from their set of six celestial maps which were drawn by W. Newton, with the constellations by W. Clarke. Each map shows the major stars, each with its magnitude indicated by the size of the star, and the constellations drawn in and hand colored. This map includes Virgo, Leo, Libra, and others.
