“Soldier’s Return.” New York: J. Baillie, ca. 1847. Lithograph. Original hand color. 11 1/4 x 8 5/8. Very good condition.
A popular print of the Mexican War. These prints, issued by such firms as Currier & Ives and the Kelloggs, helped to fullfil the public demand for images of the war taking place in a very distant place. While not based on first-hand drawings, these prints did provide the American public with their main source of visual images of the war. This genre image shows a soldier returning from the Mexican War.
