“Colorado.” Chicago: Geographical Publishing Co., 1911. Separately issued, broadside map. Map: 20 x 27; broadside: 35 1/2 x 27 3/4. Color printed, cerograph. With minor wear and short edge repairs. Overall, very good condition.
A striking broadside map of Colorado issued in 1911 by Chicago’s Geographical Publishing Co., issued as advertising for the Rocky Mountain News. This map publishing firm issued atlases, but also a series of similar broadside maps of different states to be used for advertising by different companies. This particular map includes a vignette of the state capital building and portraits of Colorado governors from John Evans to James Peabody, a feature Geographical Publishing used also for at least Texas and Indiana. The map is up-to-date, showing Moffat County which was created out of the western part of Routt County on February 27, 1911. Being a separately issued map, it is quite rare, which together with its dramatic appearance and historical interest make it most desirable.
